Step 1: FAQ:
W H Y 6 X 6 ?
 |
2 times more load capacity |
 |
3 times more wheel travel/ axle articulation |
 |
50% more traction |
 |
6x6 Super single tires are more capable than dually wheels off-road |
 |
50% more braking capacity |
 |
30% more braking Swept area |

 |
Less stress and strain put on the axles for same load capacity |

Tire wear is minimized with the "steering" rear suspension |
 |
The Bogie suspension allows VERY minimal chassis flex/stress for maximum load stabilization |
 |
A 4X4 with the same weight capacity exceeds the cost of a 6X6 conversion |
 |
Air bag suspensions also have vehicle load leveling, making for a safer/stable transport |

How about the fact you will
have the only one on your block?

Step 2:
What kind of 1/4 ton to 2 ton Conversions and
Suspensions does USA6x6 offer?

USA6x6 Does "TRUE
6x6" conversions like the
"PINKS" edition H2
|
|
Step 4:
 |
Getting all the details laid out: If you
like the quote we give you for your specifications, next is laying out all the
details you want in your conversion. We do an Excel Spread Sheet for cost
records and a contract binding between both parties and agreeable to both
parties before we go any farther. |
 |
Financing: We can do the conversion in payment
terms agreeable to both parties and laid out in contract form. Or you may
also find financing on your own locally. |
 |
Transportation:
If you would like us to come and get your vehicle we can arrange our own
transport to here and back for you. Or we have a loading dock to receive your
truck via a transport company. If you are buying a new truck simply order
it from your dealer in your town and have it drop shipped here to save a one way
transportation cost. Or if you would like you can order it from our
network of dealers here in town.

Technical information regarding 6X6
conversions:
 |
Does this conversion void my warranty?
|
 |
Yes it does,
just like armoring or getting a limo stretch. A good dealer will
understand what is effected, what is not, and will honor those components.
Why can we not offer a warranted vehicle? USA6x6 is not ISO 9000 certified
and we do not use all OEM components (IE all Ford parts on a Ford). At
some point we will get our certification and Possibly offer a factory warranty.
We at USA6x6 stand behind every component we make and will honor our equipment,
parts, installation for 2+ years or 20,000 miles (disregarding clear abuse).
Our Gearover boxes are made right here in the US and are an excellent unit with
a perfect performance history. |
 |
What are the capacities of a 6x6 conversion?
|
 |
If you
have a 1 ton truck with a 11,000 pound capacity rear axle, and a 6400 pound
capacity front axle with a truck
weighing @7500
pounds. This is a towing and hauling capacity of 9900 pounds right?
Well this is different if you use Ford math (stretched for advertising purposes)
OR you use Dodge math (understated for warranty issues). Either way our
axle we add is capable of another 10,000 pounds of capacity. What does
this mean to you? Can you really haul 10,000 more pounds in your bed?
No. The Dodge frame will crack and the Ford frame will bend before you
reach these capacities. |
 |
How do you register your 6X6?
|
 |
All 50 states
recognize a 3 axle vehicle for registration. Once your conversion is
complete you may take it to your local tag agency or DMV office to have them
inspect it and re-title it as a 6X6 conversion with a 24,999 pound (non CDL)
towing/hauling capacity. Your re-designated title will show up in a few
days, cost you a few dollars and now you legally own a 6X6 with the correct
capacity and title for insurance purposes. |
 |
Tire wear and Mileage concerns:
|
 |
All 2 axle trailers
get excellent mileage out of the tires, why? 1/2 the load is on 2 separate
axles. Scrub radius wear is no more than a typical 2 axle trailer.
USA6x6 #008 6X4 after 10,000 plus miles has noticed no tire wear increase over
the 4X2 Dually he had before. Mileage will decrease up to 7% over a
stock conversion, due to our findings based on gear and tire drag and mileage
recordings on our trucks. Once again Our Score keeper #008 has NO
mileage difference over stock, however we did remove his diesel muffler and
replace it with open pipe. |
 |
Torque splitters and driveline disconnects:
|
 |
Are
torque splitters necessary for your 6x6 conversion? No, here is why.
In an 18 wheeler you have 80,000 pounds of load and @1100 ft pounds of torque on
a 2" axle shaft it will snap no matter what it is made of and if it is solidly
linked with the other axle. This is why a torque splitter is necessary for
those capacity of trucks. On a 1 ton chassis with twin drive axles they
have @1 5/8" axle shafts and the same material in them as the big rigs.
The amount of load you can put on a frame will not exceed the capacity of the
axle shafts and because there is such a light load, gear windup is nonexistent.
Where are our sources for this information? Ford superduty engineers
division study. Also the fact the military 6x6's haven't used one in the last 70+
years. Driveline disconnects: You may think you want to save mileage
by disconnecting the #3 axle when not loaded or for long haul loads. The
disconnected #3 axle without load only promotes excessive tire spin. If
you do want the extra expense of the disconnecting the #3 axle we can
manufacture unlocking hubs for a rear axle and install a driveline disconnect.
The expense is questionable for the mileage gain. Overall we do not
recommend them. |
 |
Gear-over boxes:
|
 |
Why do we use a gear-over box and
not a twin shaft or through-pinion 6x6 design? Twin shaft transfer cases were
not designed to run high speeds constantly and will heat up easily. Also
twin shaft setups require 2 axles to be modified and can get in the way of the
fuel tanks. While this is a very affordable way to do a 6x6, it is not the
best way. Through-pinion axles are good for street applications because
the driveshaft is so short it does not work well off-road, Also I dont
know of anyone making them any more. Why do we use a gear-over box?
Because is allows you to only modify One axle and use your existing axle as the
new # 3 axle. This does not interfere with your fuel tanks and is the
lightest strongest application we have found. The driveshaft angle is also
better than the twin shaft for highway applications. Our gear-over box has
run thousands of miles while pulling 18,000 pound trailers and big HP.
They run silent and strong, only a little sing at 65-75 mph but not noticeable
inside the cab. The capacity of the gear-over box will exceed the capacity
of the axles you own. Each gear set is rated at 800 HP and 1100 ft pounds
of torque, they have done all this while running cooler than stock differential
temperatures. |
 |
Suspension
systems:
|
 |
What suspension do I need?
Maybe you need Airbags, maybe you want the reliability of
springs, maybe you want load sharing torsion bars? We will help you
determine your needs in our 6X6 conversion quote generator. Whatever
suspension we install will load share for that ultra smooth ride with more
capacity and axle travel. |

operation. With the forward gear-over box this also gives you a long driveshaft
to the #3 axle for Smooth high speed articulation with no driveshaft bind. In
comparison to a through pinion axle you have 13 more inches of driveshaft length
with the Gear-over box for better driveshaft angles and more axle articulation.
